Cosy Dens (1999)

Directed by Jan Hřebejk, is a 115-minute color comedy-drama set in 1967 Prague, just months before the Prague Spring. Shot on 35 mm film and based on the novel Hovno hoří by Petr Šabach, the film portrays the lives of two neighboring families—one with Communist ties and the other more skeptical—through the eyes of their teenage children.

Blending political satire with tender coming-of-age moments, Cosy Dens explores the generational divide, ideological disillusionment, and the universal chaos of family life. The screenplay was written by Petr Jarchovský, with cinematography by Jan Malíř and music by Jaroslav Uhlíř. The film balances nostalgia and critique, offering a warm but sharp look at late 1960s Czechoslovakia.
