prelude
"Eastern Europe. Of the three steps of Europe, the first is the Mediterranean Sea. It is not only a natural but also a spiritual climate. This is the Orphic world. The life of the muses. Almost light.
The other is paler, the white-yellow light that is now called the West.
The third is even more obscure, already greenish, as if it were under water, the province, Eastern Europe. It is not a light source, but a reflection. Its nature is not understandable in itself." - Hamvas Béla

about
Huzat is a collection of essays, poetry, photography, cinema, architecture and other products of culture from the east-central part of europe. Its aproach is rather personal, not a boundary bound academic research.
The purpose of this project is to repaint and rediscover the once vividly sensible cultural unity of the region. Some writings comment on the topic itself, others try to fill in the blind spots of the collage.
We dedicate this site to the cosmopolitans, the homesick, the curious.
Huzat is curated by Attila Horváth and Márk Mátis.
